A townhouse in Saint-Henri, renovated from top to bottom. The original staircase was functional but lacked character. The client wanted something more refined that would fit into a contemporary interior without being overstated.
The project
Connect two floors within a narrow space, with a clean finish. White-painted risers, natural oak treads and an understated balustrade. Nothing superfluous.
Choice of material
White oak is one of the most widely used woods in staircase joinery: stable and durable, it takes an oil finish well and ages gracefully underfoot. The white-painted risers create a crisp contrast that makes the overall structure feel lighter.
Execution
Consistent riser height, aligned balusters and a continuous handrail. Concealed fasteners and on-site adjustments. Custom fabrication allows every element to be adapted to the constraints of the existing building—something a prefabricated staircase cannot offer.
Result
A clean, well-proportioned custom interior wood staircase that fits in without imposing itself. The oak adds warmth and the white makes it feel lighter. A solid project designed to last.
